brief: | Marine specification to tolerate demanding conditions |
customer: | The Royal Fleet Auxilliary |
contractor: | Chillflow Solutions |
equipment: | Marstair WM80/WM100E, MCU80+/MHPUE90 |
The Royal Fleet Auxilliary needed specialist cooling equipment for one of their three Bay Class amphibious landings ships and contacted Marine HVAC experts Chillflow Solutions.
Chillflow selected Marstair's marine equipment because they are designed to withstand the rigorous conditions at sea.

During an extensive refit at the A & P Yard, Falmouth, RFA Lyme Bay had the air conditioning installed in their Technical Workshop areas.
The Marstair equipment is specially designed for Marine and Offshore applications and the units for this project had the following features:
- Copper/Copper Coils
- Stainless Steel Casing (condensing units)
- IP65 Motor/electrics
- 3 Phase (no neutral)
- 60 HZ
- Twin drain on drip tray on indoor units
The RFA Lyme Bay is a combat vessel and can offload embarked troops and armored vehicles from ship to shore using their onboard Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel (LCVP) and Landing Craft Utility (LCU) vessels. They are highly versatile and can operate in extremely rough weather to support amphibious operations and ground forces across the globe.

It has sufficient space for vehicles equating to 36 Challenger Tanks or 150 light trucks plus 200 tons of ammunition. Using their stern dock for landing craft and flight deck for helicopters, they are able to offload in rougher weather far quicker than any other naval vessel.
