The adaptability of the Marstair product range was a key factor in the selection of Marstair units for the prestigious headquarters of the Institute of Directors in London's Pall Mall.

A split system air conditioning solution comprising an HLR Hi-Lo unit with MHPUE reverse cycle heat pump outdoor unit has been installed in a wine bar extension for the comfort of members and guests, while a CX70 cellar cooler connected to a CKC80 outdoor unit is keeping wine and beer in the IOD s wine cellar at the ideal temperature.

Reading-based Calmec Building Services installed the equipment supplied by Heronhill Air Conditioning of Wellington, Somerset and Calmec director Chris Moxon explained that the high capacity HLR heat pump unit had to be totally concealed within the wall of a seating area in the basement wine bar. The Marstair unit was chosen because it offered top/front discharge and was adaptable for such an application. The chassis was removed from its casing and converted to a discreet stowaway unit, without compromising the systems  high performance and efficiency.

Glyn Davies, the IoD s Head of Facilities and Project Director, stated: With 54,000 demanding clients I needed to deliver a solution that was not going to let me or the members down. Marstair has certainly delivered on this project.

The CX Cellarator was specified not only because of its ability to maintain a cooled cellar environment effectively, while offering enhanced safety and ease of maintenance, but also because the Marstair units offer long pipe runs of up to 80 metres with CKC outdoor units. This was a key factor: The long refrigerant runs possible with the Marstair equipment meant it could cope with the particular configuration of the building, said Chris Moxon.

Nigel Manning of Heronhill added: This was an interesting application, with the flexibility of the Hi Lo meaning it could be specially adapted to meet the exacting requirements of the Institute of Directors. He concluded that The diversity of the Marstair range knows no bounds!
